Discover the Stunning Features of Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
The Wagner family acquired Caymus Vineyards in 1971 and
expanded it into a full-fledged winery. In Rutherford, Napa County, the
vineyard covers over 60 acres. The name Caymus derives from the 1800s Mexican
land grant Rancho Caymus, which included the current site of the vineyard.
Chuck Wagner is the current owner of the vineyard. After assisting his parents,
Charlie Wagner and Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, in establishing the winery into
what it is now, he received it from them as inheritance.
Lorna and Chuck Wagner, who have a lengthy background in the
wine industry, founded Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the first
wine-growing families in Napa Valley is the Wagners. In the middle of the 19th
century, the great-great grandfather of Lorna Wagner landed in Napa Valley,
California. In the late 1800s, Lorna's
great-grandfather, Lafayette Stice, began producing wine in Napa.
The grandparents of Chuck Wagner relocated from San
Francisco to Rutherford in the Napa Valley in 1906. Carl and Catherind Wagner.
A little more than ten years later, the family had a fully functional winery
that produced more than 30,000 gallons of bulk wind annually. For the purpose
of growing grapes, Charlie and Lorna purchased 73 acres of land in Rutherford
in 1941. Together with their son Chuck, they established Caymus vineyards
Cabernet Sauvignon in 1972.

experts were drawn to their 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon because of its deep
richness and flavour. Later, in 1975, they produced their Special selection
Cabernet Sauvignon, which is the only wind to have earned wine spectator's wine
of the year award twice.
Nearly fifty years later, Charlie and Jenny Wagner,
offspring of Chuck Wagner, assist in managing the family winery. Joe Wagner,
his youngest son, founded his own vineyard in California called Belle Glos in
honour of his lifelong winemaker grandmother Lorna Belle Glos Wagner. Fine
Pinot Noir wines are made under the Belle Glos label.
A cabernet Sauvignon-only varietal wind, the Caumus special
selection is produced. It has a beautiful sweet undertone that is typical of
Napa Valley Cabernets and is strong and powerful. The Caymus Winery is located
in the Rutherford AVA, which boasts a warm, sunny climate and swiftly draining
soil. As a result, the cabernet has a rich, deep taste and less acidity than
usual.
