Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley Wine

Opus One is a joint venture between the late Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux. From the onset, Opus One was conceived as a Bordeaux-style blend based on premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, thereby merging French and American winemaking styles into a singular opus. After its debut in 1979, Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley Wine quickly rose to cult status, and to this day it remains one of the most sought-after wines produced in the United States. Winemaker Michael Silacci commented that usually the blends are finished in January or February after the vintage. This year, with the 2019s, he was still tweaking the blend, but he did mention that this is "pretty close to the final blend." Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Opus One leaps from the glass with notes of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, mulberries, and fresh blackcurrants plus hints of licorice, wilted roses, Sichuan pepper, ...

Oban 14 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The 14-year-old is the signature Oban expression. Highland malts can encompass a range of different styles, from Speyside sweetness to Islay-type smokiness, and Oban runs the gamut in a single sip, encompassing luscious fruity flavors, salinity, and a light smokiness. Oban 14 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made using only the finest barley, malted to the distillery's particular specification. Tasting Notes Color: With a rich amber that belies its relatively young age (for a scotch, that is), it’s said that caramel coloring is used to darken its hue, as is the case with many Diageo-owned whiskies. Nose: It’s quite floral and malty, with notes of honey and apricot. Let the glass sit for a few minutes, and the honeyed aromas become more pronounced. Palate: Highland malts are all over the place stylistically, and so is Oban. It kicks off with sweet, luscious notes of apple and honey and a tongue-coating waxiness, which morphs into tart lemon and malt. Hold it on the tongue an...

Don Julio Blanco Tequila

As a tequila, this starts with a crop of agave plants — specifically, blue agave plants that are grown on the family estate in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The plants are harvested and have their leaves shaved, which leaves behind only the hard fibrous core. Don Julio uses only 100% blue Weber agave plants for their products and does not add other sugars, as is common with cheaper production methods. Don Julio uses a more traditional method of processing these cores: the company cuts them into smaller chunks and loads them into brick ovens for a couple of days to roast. This softens the hardcore, converts the fructans into fermentable sugars, and adds some unique flavors to the material. Once properly cooked, the agave cores are crushed to release the sugary juice, which is then mixed with water and fermented to create an alcoholic liquid. Using the finest blue agave plant and a time-honored distillation process, Don Julio® Blanco Tequila is tequila in its truest form. Don Julio® ...
